History
Facing the shrine of the Cristo de la Antigua is a vault with Gothic ribs, possibly built in the 15th century. This vault is decorated with 5 round bosses of polychrome and gilded wood.
The central one represents the Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus in her arms and has a diameter of 80 cm.
This boss was the central figure of the poster for the exhibition commemorating the 50 years of the Diocese of Albacete "Los Caminos de la Luz" (The Paths of Light). In the others, the four evangelists appear presented as a tetramorph, and they have a diameter of 64 cm:
- The man is Matthew, since his Gospel begins by reviewing the genealogy of Christ, the Son of Man.
- The lion is Mark, because his Gospel begins by speaking of John the Baptist, "The voice of one crying in the wilderness"; said voice would be like that of the lion.
- The eagle is John, since his Gospel is the most abstract and theological of the four and, therefore, the one that soars above the others.
- The bull is Luke, since his Gospel begins by speaking of the sacrifice that Zechariah, father of John the Baptist, made to God.
